NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Luis E. Maldonado-Guerrero, of Evanston, is accused of improper use of registration, suspended driver's license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 8:37 p.m. June 18, at Dundee and Waukegan roads. He was released on bond and was assigned a court date of Aug. 3.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Gary L. Specks, of Wheeling, is accused of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, and was arrested at 9:39 pm. June 18, at Dundee and Portwine roads. He was released on bond and was assigned a court date of July 7.
  • Mary E. Reckamp, of Northbrook, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 6:05 p.m. June 21, at Anets Drive and Techny Road. When police arrived, they found Reckamp drinking an alcoholic beverage while still sitting in the driver's seat. Reckamp was assigned a court date of Aug 4.

INCIDENTS

FORGERY

A Shermer Road resident reported at 9:02 a.m. June 18, he received information from his banking institution that someone fraudulently manufactured checks with his business account information on them. In total, there were six checks that were found to be fraudulent, totaling over $27,000.

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

A resident in the area of Southwind Drive and Russett Way called police at 2:28 p.m. June 18, to report a suspicious silver pickup style vehicle was driving slowly around her area. The pickup had various metal waste in the back like grills and bicycles. The driver of the vehicle never stopped, but she felt it might be casing homes. The officers checked the area but could not find the vehicle.

DISTURBANCE

A person in the area of Walters Avenue and Briarwood Lane reported at 2:13 a.m. June 19, she heard multiple people fighting in the street. The responding officers located three men who said they were walking home from a restaurant and had a disagreement. There wasn’t any physical altercation. The officers stood by while the men waited for a ride-share that drove them home.

RETAIL THEFT

  • The staff of a merchandise store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road called police to make a delayed report of a retail theft on June 18. They said the offender stole a pink Balmain Barbie sweatshirt valued over $800. The offender was described as a female, with long dark hair with blonde streaks, long fingernails, tattoos on right arm, left chest, and left abdomen. The officer reviewed the surveillance footage from the area and saw the offender get into a silver Mercedes that left the scene southbound on Skokie Boulevard.
  • The loss prevention staff at a store in the 1000 block of Willow Road filed three retail theft reports on June 20. The first theft took place on May 26 for a total of $387. The second theft occurred on June 7 for $802, and the third theft took place on June 8 for $334.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE

A resident in the 2100 block of Valley Road reported she had captured a suspicious incident on the household’s “Ring” CCTV. She explained a group of people, possible teenagers, approached the house and appeared to attempt to make entry. The subjects tried utilizing the door’s keypad as well without success. The officer checked around the house, but nothing else appeared to be disturbed.

THEFT

A person called police at 6:20 p.m. June 20, to report her wallet was stolen from her purse while she was shopping at a store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The stolen items were her driver’s license, two credit cards, and $200.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE

A person reported that between June 19 and June 21, someone stole the catalytic converter from his parked vehicle in the 1400 block of Sunset Ridge Road.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON

A resident in the 2100 block of White Oak Drive called police at 7:21 p.m. June 21, to report a suspicious person came to her residence. The person requested to come inside her residence so he could “check something.” The complainant refused his request. She described him as a male, about 20 years of age, wearing a yellow and orange shirt, and riding a skateboard. The officers checked the area for the subject, but had negative results in finding him.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

  • A person reported at 8:49 p.m. June 21, they had parked their car in the parking lot earlier in the day in the 1200 block of Sanders Road. When he returned, he noticed the center console inside the vehicle was slightly ajar and the door lock appeared to be damaged. He discovered his wallet containing his credit cards were taken from the vehicle and fraudulently used, totaling $3,000.
  • A person called police at 8:40 a.m. June 22, to report after returning to their vehicle parked overnight in the 1300 block of Williamsburg Drive, he noticed the glove box was open and $30 was taken.
  • A person reported at 9:06 a.m. June 22, they returned their vehicle parked overnight in the 300 block of Lee Road, and noticed someone stole $6 and a screwdriver from within the vehicle. The officers canvassed the area and found video footage showing the offenders driving up in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle. A second vehicle used by the offenders appeared to be a silver sedan. One offender is described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black face mask.
  • While investigating several burglaries in the area of the 1000 block of Williamsburg Drive at 9:48 a.m. June 22, an officer noticed a vehicle with its rear passenger door ajar and a jacket partially hanging out. After contacting the owner, it was discovered that cash and a pair of sunglasses were taken.

TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

  • A resident in the 300 block of Red Coach Lane reported at 9:11 a.m. June 22, they found the driver’s side door of his vehicle ajar this morning. Someone had rummaged through the center console and the glove box. He didn’t find anything missing from the vehicle. The complainant found a screwdriver lying on his driveway that wasn’t his.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Lee Road called police at 2:07 p.m. June 22, to report after noticing that someone illegally entered her vehicle overnight, the complainant reviewed her surveillance footage for the home. The recording showed two vehicles, being a sport utility vehicle and a sedan, pull up to her house. Two subjects got out of their vehicle and entered her vehicle to rummage through the contents. The complainant said it appeared nothing was taken.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A person called police at 10:58 a.m. June 22, their car was stolen overnight while parked in the street in the 200 block of Powder Horn Drive. Parts of the vehicle were found lying next to the curb.
