Medics Treat Drunken Man Who Then Jumps In Car: Northbrook PD Blotter
Police had been dispatched to a hotel where the man was unresponsive due to intoxication, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
- Mars Abdraev, of Chicago, is accused of driving with a suspended license, having no front license plate, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, no valid driver's license, illegal transportation of alcohol, and was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 19, in the 1900 block of Landwehr Road. Police responded to the area for a report of a car parked in the roadway who appeared unconscious. When police arrived, the vehicle began moving again. Police also found several bottles of liquor on the floor of the car. A court date of March 18 was assigned.
- Steven A. McRae, of Glenview, is accused of driving under the influence, violating the median on a divided highway, improper lane usage, failure to give right of way at an intersection, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Jan. 22, in the 1100 block of Willow Road. Police had been dispatched to a hotel for a subject, later identified as McRae, unresponsive due to intoxication. Paramedics treated him and McRae signed a release. About an hour later, witnesses told police McRae had been driving away from the hotel while still impaired. The officer found McRae’s vehicle traveling down the roadway and it almost traveled into the oncoming lanes. The officer caught up to McRae’s vehicle just as he struck a median and almost struck another vehicle. After finally coming to a stop, the officer spoke to McRae on why he was driving intoxicated. Police said McRae refused to complete the sobriety tests, but due to his extreme intoxication, he was taken into custody. A court date of Feb. 26 was assigned.

Lawrence A. Sims, of Northbrook, is accused of having a defective headlight, defective taillight, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:14 p.m. Jan. 24, in the 2700 block of Willow Road. A court date of March 18 was assigned.
ROAD RAGE

Rodolfo A. Carranza, of Schaumburg, had a warrant for road rage, and was arrested at 6:32 a.m. Jan. 25, at Waukegan and Dundee roads. On Jan. 3, a complainant said he was confronted by another motorist during a road rage incident. During the confrontation, the complainant was battered by the offender. After a thorough investigation, Carranza was identified and arrested for aggravated battery. A court date of Jan. 26 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
ATTEMPTED TRESPASSING
While reviewing surveillance footage at 4:26 p.m. Jan. 20, of a building under construction in the 1600 block of Shermer Road, police saw several people attempting to gain access to it. The subjects attempted to force open a side door to the building. After repeated attempts, the subjects fled the area. The officer walked through the building to make sure no one was inside, then secured the door.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
- Police responded to an abandoned building in the 1300 block of Techny Road at 9:49 p.m. Jan. 20, because the burglar alarm was activated. The officers found a shattered window along the side of the building. Officers searched the interior and exterior but couldn’t find anyone there.
- The staff of a retail store in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 3:53 p.m. Jan. 25, four males knocked over the store’s mannequins and forcibly pushed through the automatic doors, causing them to malfunction. The subjects fled in a Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee.
STOLEN VEHICLE
A complainant reported on Jan. 22, that on Jan. 1, he had parked his 1993 beige Mercedes in a parking lot in the 3100 block of Dundee Road. When he returned on Jan, 22, he noticed the vehicle was stolen. The police department contacted the owner of the parking lot, but they said they did not have it towed.
CHECK FRAUD
A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 10:34 a.m. Jan. 25, someone had intercepted a business check they mailed. The check payee was altered and deposited in another account for the amount of $69,093.
RETAIL THEFT
The staff of a grocery store in the 800 block of Willow Road called police at 4:22 p.m. Jan. 25, to report a female subject concealed groceries in a bag and walk out of the store without paying. After confronting the subject, she advised them she had left her wallet in her car. As she walked through the parking lot to show them, she dropped the bag of groceries and fled the area on foot.
