'Neighbor' Lures Woman Outside Before Burglary: Northbrook Crimes

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which merely represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Therefore, readers are reminded an arrest does not mean a person is guilty.
INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Church Street by scratching the rear door, police were told on the afternoon of March 10.

THEFT
Someone stole a wallet from inside a locked room inside a hotel in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard, police were told on the morning of March 11.
CAR BURGLARY
Between 11:25 a.m. and 1:35 p.m. on March 12, someone reportedly broke a window of a car parked in the 900 block of Willow Road and stole a purse from inside that contained IDs and other items.

RETAIL THEFT
Staff at the Northbrook Court Lord & Taylor told police around noon on March 13 that two men or boys entered the store and stole about 10 to 12 Kate Spade purses worth more than $2,500 before leaving the store and getting into a waiting vehicle.
RUSE BURGLARY
A resident in the 2200 block of Landwehr Road reported on the afternoon of March 13 that a man walked up their home and claimed to be a new neighbor. The purported neighbor spoke with the resident's mother-in-law and claimed that there was a problem with the fence. The two walked outside for about 10 minutes before the "neighbor" said he needed to go get his business card from his truck. The man never returned, and the mother-in-law went back inside. The resident later discovered that bedrooms in the home had been rummaged through and personal property had been stolen, including cash and possibly women's jewelry.
ATTEMPTED FRAUD
A resident in the 2100 block of Foxglove Drive reported that someone called them up claiming that their computer internet provider had intended to refund their account $300 but instead accidentally refunded $6, 00 and was told to go to Walmart or Target and buy gift cards.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Lamar K. Bell, 25, of the 400 block of South 49th Avenue in Bellwood, was arrested March 8 at 5:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Chistina Lane and charged with financial identity theft, a felony, following an investigation that began last August. Bell was reportedly identified as making more than $3,100 in unauthorized online purchases.
A 23-year-old Palatine man was arrested at 4:17 a.m. on March 11 near the intersection of Dundee Road and Downing Street and charged with driving with a suspeded license following a traffic stop. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.
Darnell Washington, 20, of the 400 block of Happfield Drive in Arlington Heights, turned himself in on March 13 in connection with felony charges related to fleeing from police earlier this month. On March 5, cops saw his vehicle was speeding in the area of Dundee and Pifinsten road on March 5, and Northbrook police broadcast an alert to neighboring communities. He was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, excessive speeding – more than 35 mph over the limit, a felony – driving with a suspended driver's license and misdemeanor speeding. He was also issued tickets for disobeying traffic signals and improper lane usage.
Obed Pillado, 30, of the 3500 block of West 75th Place in Chicago, was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. on March 13 in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard and charged with possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop. After he was pulled over, police smelled marijuana and found cannabis and Xanax pills. He was also ticketed for driving without lights, failure to signal and possession of cannabis.
