Over $20,000 In Fraudulent Furniture Purchases: Northbrook Crimes

Northbrook Police Blotter: March 2 - March 8

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which merely represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Therefore, readers are reminded an arrest does not mean a person is guilty.

INCIDENTS

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Someone stole credit cards from a wallet at the North Suburban YMCA and then used them to make a $3,900 purchase at the Northbrook Apple store, police were told on the afternoon of March 1.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 2800 block of Farmington Road reported on the afternoon of March 1 that someone opened up an unauthorized credit union bank account using their personal information.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in 2000 block of Cargill Drive reported on the morning of March 2 that someone had opened up an unauthorized response.

BURGLARY
Someone broke into a storage garage and two utility trailers at a landscaping in the 1800 block of Techny Road in between 6 p.m. on March 2 and 6:30 a.m. on March 3. It was not immediately known how much was stolen.

THEFT
A resident of the 1000 block of Woodbine Lane reported that someone stole a package from their porch between 5:27 p.m. on March 2 and 4 a.m. on March 3.

THEFT
Someone stole four hubcaps from a vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Skokie Boulevard between 6 a.m. and noon on March 3.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
Someone provided a fake ID and a check that later bounced as a down payment when purchasing a vehicle from a Toyota dealership in the 1500 block of Skokie Boulevard.

THEFT
A property owner in the 3300 block of Walters Avenue reported on the morning of March 5 that someone stole a tarp.

FRAUD
On March 5, a furniture store staffer in the 1000 block of Skokie Boulevard reported that someone carried out a telephone order for $13,800 using a fraudulent credit card, as well as four other purchases totaling $7,500 with a fraudulent credit card.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone damaged a driver's side door of a vehicle in the 300 block of Old Post Road, police were told in the morning of March 6.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a purse containing a wallet, IDs and about $300 from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 1100 block of Techny Road on the morning of March 6.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Someone tried to make a purchase using the credit card account of a Northbrook resident in Waukegan, police were told on the evening of March 7.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 29-year-old Prospect Heights man was arrested at 12:10 p.m. on March 2 at the intersection of Dundee Road and Western Avenue and charged with driving with a revoked license and an obstructed windshield and without proof of insurance or a seat belt.

Zulema Garcia, 36, of the 4500 block of North Mason Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on March 3 at the Northbrook Court Lord & Taylor store and charged with felony theft after police were told she had about $3,200 in fraudulent returns for store credit.

Christian Banuelos, 22, of the 800 block of East Gardenia Lane, Palatine, was arrested shortly before 11 p.m. on March 3 near the intersection of Dundee and Huehl roads and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop. he was also charged illegal transportation of alcohol, having a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 and ticketed or no proof of insurance and improper lane usage.

John W. Burke, 51, of the 1900 block of Cherry Lane, Northbrook, was arrested shortly before 11 p.m. near the intersection of Pfingsten and Techny roads and charged with driving under the influence and cited for no turn on red, failure to signal and improper lane after police said they pulled him over for a traffic violation and determined he was impaired.

A 53-year-old Winthrop Harbor man was charged with suspended license and failure to reduce speed following an investigation into a traffic crash in the area of Sanders Road and Commercial Avenue.

A 44-year-old Evanston man was arrested on the afternoon of March 8 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop near Dundee Road and Skokie Boulevard. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to yield on a left turn.
