Niles Man Charged With Child Porn: Northbrook Crime Reports

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest does not mean a person is guilty, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A backpack that was left at the train depot was stolen sometime prior to 7 p.m. on Jan. 18 from the 1400 block of Shermer Road, police were told. The bag reportedly contained a laptop and various personal items.

FRAUD
A resident in the 2000 block of Clover Road reported on the night of Jan. 18 that their bank had notified them that two of their credit cards had been used to make unauthorized purchases totaling nearly $3,000, which were delivered to an address in California.

THEFT
A patron at the post office in the 2400 block of Dundee Road reported on the night of Jan. 18 that they went to pick up a package shipped to them containing a ring that was valued at $11,000. When they picked up the package, it was empty.

FRAUD
Police were told shortly before 10 a.m. on Jan. 19 that someone had fraudulently issued checks from the accounts of a business in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 1200 block of Waukegan Road reported that someone had opened multiple unauthorized credit accounts using their name sometime between Dec. 30 and Jan. 19.

THEFT
A resident in the 3900 block Medford Circle reported that a water pipe in their home had broken while they were on vacation. A contractor was contacted and when repairs were completed, various items missing were reported missing from the home on the afternoon of Jan. 19.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee of the Saks Off Fifth in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported shortly after 10 a.m. on Jan. 20 that two men or boys and one woman or girl was seen leaving the store without paying for a pair of shoes believed to be valued at nearly $700.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
Someone spray painted graffiti on the rear of a building in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard, police were told on the morning of Jan. 22.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD
A resident in the 300 block of Oak Knoll Terrace reported on the afternoon of Jan. 22 that they received a letter from their credit card company asking about a purchase in New York. The resident told the company they had not made such a purchase and contacted the police.

RETAIL THEFT
Around 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 24, police were told five men or boys entered the store and stole two women's purses from a display area at the Neiman Marcus at Northbrook Court before leaving the area in a vehicle.

RETAIL THEFT
Police were told shortly after 3 p.m. on Jan. 24 that three men or boys walked into the Macy's at Northbrook Court and stole Nike apparel.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Dennis P. Jans, 59, of the 0-100 block of East Piper Lane in Prospect Heights, was arrested shortly before 9 a.m. on Jan. 19 in the 1400 block of Sanders Road on an active warrant from Lancaster County, Nebraska connected to a felony theft charge. Police pulled him over for a traffic violation and found he had the outstanding warrant.

Premkumar H. Patel, 22, of the 8800 block of North Ozanam, Niles, was arrested Jan. 17 in the 4000 block of Dundee Road and charged with possession of child pornography. Police investigated a report of a suspicious circumstance from a citizen and obtained a warrant for Patel's electronic devices. More charges could be pending, police said.

A 26-year-old Arlington Heights man was arrested shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 20 and charged with driving with a suspended license and an improper turn following a traffic stop at Kamp and Founders drives.

Charles D. Jacobson, 40, of the 800 block of North Elmhurt Road in Prospect Heights, was arrested at 2:17 a.m. on Jan. 21 near the intersection of Dundee and Landwehr roads and charged with driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol content above 0.08 following a traffic stop. Police said he was seen committing several traffic violations and was also ticketed for speeding and making an improper turn.

A 23-year-old Elk Grove Village man was arrested at 3:40 a.m. on Jan. 21 near the intersection of Dundee and Huehl roads and charged with driving on a suspended license without insurance and with expired plates following a traffic stop.

A 26-year-old Mount Prospect man was cited for possession of cannabis, miscellaneous cannabis paraphernalia and improper lane usage following a traffic stop at Waukegan Road and Walters Avenue around 10:51 p.m. on Jan. 21.

A 69-year-old Chicago man was arrested shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 22 and charged with with driving on a suspended license following an investigation into a traffic crash in the 3300 block of Old Mill Road.

A 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 near the intersection of Sanders and Dundee roads and charged with driving with a suspended license and without insurance following an investigation into a traffic crash.

Jarvis J. Smith, 28, of the 1600 block of 16th Street, North Chicago, was arrested at 7:10 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Tiffany & Co in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road and charged with resisting a police officer and disorderly conduct. Store employees told police he had been asked to the leave the store for making threats to employees. He reportedly left, but when he returned and again began threatening staff, they called police. When cops arrived, Jarvis allegedly tried to flee on foot but was caught in the parking lot. After taking him into custody police learned he had two outstanding arrest warrants issued in Lake County – one from the sheriff's office and one from the Waukegan Police Department.
