NORTHBROOK, IL — July 4th is quickly approaching, which means it's time to fire up that barbecue and find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you this Independence Day. Patch has gathered up all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Northbrook so you can start planning now.
As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service was predicting a high of 82 to 89 degrees Thursday for the Chicago area, but just like last year — when storms turned deadly on the 4th of July — scattered storms are a possibility. The NWS is predicting a 30 percent chance of storms both Wednesday and Thursday nights — so keep an eye out for weather-related fireworks cancellations.

Events begin at 7:30 a.m. at Techny Prairie Park and Fields with the Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk, followed by the Liberty Lap Fun Run for kids aged 4 to 10 at 8:30 a.m.
At Village Green Park, Rotary Club hosts a 4th of July Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Historical Society Museum will open from 9 a.m. to noon and the Police vs. Fire Department softball game begins at 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m., a family mini golf tournament and cookout begins at Sportsman's Country Club, and Northbrook Park District pools open and stay open until 7 p.m.
The Northbrook Fourth of July parade (route) goes from Cherry Lane and Western Avenue to Shermer and Meadow roads. It begins with a bike parade at 2:15 p.m. before the main start time of 2:30 p.m.
Fireworks begin at dusk at Meadowhill Park and Techy Prairie Park and Fields. DJ entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Northbrook Velodrome and a food truck will be on hand near the chalet at Meadowhill Park.

According to organizers, all spectators are expected to remain out of the street and on or behind the curb and new safety fencing along portions of Cherry Lane. Throwing any items at parade entries or spraying them with garden hoses is forbidden. Squirt guns should only be used on those who encourage others to spray them.
Northbrook has held an annual Independence Day celebration for at least six decades. In 2013, the Northbrook 4th of July Association disbanded, and festivities are now managed by a collaboration of the village and the park district.
