Northbrook Board Swears In New Members

A pair of three-term trustees was replaced with a younger generation Tuesday.

NORTHBROOK, IL — It was the final village board meeting for two members of the board of trustees and the first for two others as Michael Scolaro and Todd Heller were succeeded by Muriel Collison and Jason Han.

At the Tuesday meeting, outgoing trustees Scolaro and Heller were praised by Village President Sandy Frum and fellow board members, according to the Northbrook Star.

Heller, 63, spent a decade on the District 27 school board before serving the past 12 years on the Northbrook Village Board. He was defeated in a 2016 Northbrook caucus vote by Han and did not run in this April's election.

Heller told the Star he has had enough of hearing people's complaints about new developments. But, he said, he remains interested in putting his knowledge to use serving the community, possibly by assisting with labor negotiations.

Scolaro, 58, stepped down because of increased demands from his job. The asset banker significantly improved the board's fiscal outlook as the chairman of the board's finance committee for eight years, fellow trustees told the Star.

The pair of new trustees chosen to replace the two men are notably younger. Both attorneys, Han is 36 and Collison is 40.

Two-term incumbent Kathryn Ciesla was also sworn in at Tuesday's meeting.

The next board meeting is scheduled for May 23, and the Star reports Heller and Scolaro have already made plans together for the date to celebrate their time away from Village Hall on a golf course.
