Northbrook Business Sees Violations Add Up
Auto Cars Imports had several "obvious violations" of village agreement signed in 2011.

A Northbrook business accumulated so many permit violations it nearly had to shut down this month.
When a four-year special permit expired for Auto Cars Imports, 1801 Holste Road on April 14, a Northbrook village planner had found the business to be in “obvious violation” of most of the permit’s requirements.
Among the violations were parking more cars on the property for much longer periods than allowed, according to the Northbrook Star. There were also cars being sold outside without a permit.

Business owner Steve Vago said he was unaware of the violations his business had and is working with the village on a new special permit that will change some of the stipulations of the special permit, including increasing the number of work bays allowed inside the business.
“I made a mistake,” he said of the 2011 agreement. “I just signed it. I didn’t look at it.”

The village will order Vago to undergo an inspection every day for the next 60 and force him to reimburse the village for the cost of the inspectors’ time.
