Northbrook Crime: Church Damaged, Bomb Threat, Drugs Found

Northbrook Police Department reports: Feb. 17-Feb.23

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information has been provided by the Northbrook Police Department. It is a record of police activity. Criminal charges can be dropped or reduced and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty.

PASSENGER SURRENDERS MARIJUANA

Feb. 16, around 11:30 p.m., a 33-year-old Glenview man was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped on the 1000 block of Pfingsten for a traffic violation. The officer said he detected an odor of cannabis from the vehicle while talking to the occupants. The defendant admitted that he had cannabis and drug paraphernalia in his possession. The officers issued the defendant two citations and he was released at the scene.

CAR BURGLARY: EXPENSIVE BAG

On Feb. 18 around 9:00 p.m. on the 3300 block of Sunset Trail, a victim reported that offenders entered their unlocked 2015 Chevrolet and removed approximately $30 and a large Michael Kors bag which contained an iPad. The victim estimated the loss at $1,300.

PROPERTY DAMAGE: BIKES VS. CHURCH

On Feb. 19, shortly after 9:30 a.m., at the Village Presbyterian Church on the 1300 block of Shermer Road, a caller discovered damage to a granite wall located in the Memorial Garden Cemetery. The complainant and officers observed tire tracks from bicycles on the wall and grass near the wall. It appeared that a slab of granite broke away as a result of the bicycles riding on the wall. The complainant placed the estimate of damage at $400.00.

SPEEDING/DUI (DRUGS)

On Feb. 20 around 3:30 p.m. police observed a 28-year-old Deerfield man's vehicle westbound on Dundee Road commit a speeding violation and stopped it on the 2800 block. After speaking to the defendant the officer believed he was under the influence of drugs (police did not disclose which drugs) and placed him under arrest. He was processed and released after posting bond.

THEFT

On Feb. 21 around noon on the 1900 block Old Willow Road, a victim reported that an offender stole his black Adidas warm up pants which contained his wallet sometime on Tuesday night the 21 st between 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.. The items were lying along the sidelines of the practice soccer field on his gym bag. The wallet contained four credit cards, a drivers license and $60.

BOMB THREAT TO GLENBROOK NORTH HIGH SCHOOL

After conducting an investigation, Northbrook detectives identified a Michael R. Schmidt, 59, of the 1200 block of Sunset Ridge in Northbrook as the person who placed a call to the police department of a bomb threat at Glenbrook North HS on Feb. 14th. The defendant surrendered himself on Tuesday Feb. 21 to detectives at the police station on the charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was processed and later released after posting a $1,500 I bond. Court hearing is 03-21-17, 1030 hrs., Room 102.

DUI CRASH

On Feb. 21, shortly after 8:30 p.m. police were dispatched to a vehicle crash on Dundee Road near Skokie Highway. While obtaining information from both drivers officers, determined that the defendant, a 39-year-old Chicago woman, was under the influence and placed her under arrest. She was processed and released after posting bond.
