Northbrook Police Blotter: Sept. 1 - Sept. 7

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest is not an indicator of guilt, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
THEFT

On the evening of Aug. 31, police were told someone stole a package that had been delivered on Aug. 29 from a mailbox area in the 1400 block of Shermer Road.
SUSPICIOUS PERSON

On Sept. 4 at 8:38 a.m., an employee of a business in the 3100 block of Dundee Road reported that a man entered the establishment and walked around before deciding to buy a lighter. The employee said that after the man made the purchase, a black and silver colored handgun was visible in the customer's waistband when his sweatshirt was raised. The man then left the store on foot, police did not provide any description of the man.
BURGLARY
Shortly after noon on Sept. 4, An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Dundee Road reported that someone had pried open the back door and removed a safe from the business.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident of the 2200 block of Southbridge Lane reported on the morning of Sept. 5 that someone had damaged and knocked down their mail box the previous day.
THEFT
On Sept. 5 at 11:39 a.m., a patron in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported that someone took a purse from their shopping cart. The purse contained credit cards, ID cards and $20 in cash.
THEFT
Someone reportedly removed 9 flag sticks from the golf course in the 1700 block of Techny Road between Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept 4 at 6:30 a.m. for an estimated loss of $675.
RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 900 block of Willow Road reported that a man entered a store with a green bag and took about $600 worth of various merchandise at 1:39 p.m. on Sept. 7, entered a vehicle and left the area.
ARRESTS
DUI
Douglas D. Boutwell, 38, of the 3000 block of Plum Island Drive was arrested Sept. 2 at 12:26 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Officer on routine patrol in the area of Dundee and Midway roads witnessed a vehicle commit a traffic offense. Police pulled over the car and made contact with the subject who was determined to be DUI. He was also issued a citation for failing to signal.
DUI
Alejandro Rodriguez, 23, of the 1800 block of Walnut Street in Waukegan, was arrested Sept. 2 at 11:56 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said they witnessed him commit a moving violation in the area of Dundee Road and Anthony Trial. Police pulled him over and determined he was intoxicated. He was also issued citations for illegal transport of alcohol, speeding and driving without insurance.
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 21-year-old Glenview man was arrested Sept. 3 at 1:48 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspected license. Police were on routine patrol around Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard when they saw a vehicle observed a vehicle with an equipment violation. Police pulled over the car and found the driver had a suspended license. He was also issued citations for operating and uninsured vehicle and a loud muffler.
DUI
Gustavo Rivera-Dominguez, 43, of the 800 block of 8th Street in Northfield, was arrested Sept. 3 at 2:27 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content above 0.08. Police were on routine patrol in the area of Willow and Waukegan roads when they witnessed a vehicle commit a traffic offense. Police pulled over the car at Waukegan Road and Main Street and made contact with the driver, who the officer believed was intoxicated. The driver was also issued citations for improper lane usage and improper turn.
AGGRAVATED DUI
Michael A. Merritt, 40, of the 900 block of North Francisco Avenue in Chicago, was arrested Sept. 3 at 2:31 a.m. and charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and resisting police. An officer on routine patrol in the area of Dundee Road and Laboratory saw a vehicle commit several traffic offenses. Police said they stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver who was found to be DUI. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, driving an uninsured vehicle and no registration light. Police said he resisted attempts by police to place him into handcuffs.
SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 51-year-old Mokena woman was pulled over after police saw her commit a traffic violation around Dundee and Waukegan roads around 2 a.m. on Sept. 4. Police said they learned she had a suspended driver's license from Indiana. She was also issued citations for not having valid insurance and improper lane usage.
DUI
Eugene Jones, 66, of the 600 block of 6th Street in Northfield, was arrested Sept. 5 at 11:58 p.m. near the intersection of Willow Road and Ravine Way and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content about 0.08 and driving with a revoked license. Police said they were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle with equipment violations. An officer pulled over the car and made contact with driver who was found to be DUI. He was also issued citations for expired registration, improper use of registration sticker, improper lane usage and no valid insurance.
RETAIL THEFT
Michael L. Gibrick, 38, of the 600 block of Dunsten Circle, was arrested Sept. 6 at 7:41 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road and charged with retail theft. Police said they received a call that Gibrick was seen taking a $695 jacket from an undisclosed store. He ran from the area but was found a short time later. Police said he had stolen proceeds from another nearby store that had not yet reported a theft.
