Purported Property Seller Reportedly Redirects Wire Transfer: Northbrook Crimes

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and a list of those arrested. Criminal charges are often dropped or reduced and represent merely accusations by the state. An arrest is not an indicator of guilt, and all persons named are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

On Sept. 21, a resident of the 4000 block of Noble Court reported discovered a briefcase and wallet had been taken from a vehicle.

THEFT

An employee in the 1100 block of Willow Road reported finding a company-owned iPad missing from their room after returning. The theft is believed to have taken place between 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 22.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

A resident in the 900 block of Skokie Boulevard reported that someone purporting to be the seller of a property directed a wire transfer to an account other than the actual seller. The incident is believed to have occurred between 8:32 a.m. on Sept. 22 and 6 a.m. on Sept. 25.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Keith S. Zahnow, 50, of the 700 block of North Lakeside in Vernon Hills was arrested on Sept. 22 at 8:17 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level above 0.08 after police responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Willow and Greenwood roads. Zahnow was determined to be intoxicated and was also issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving an uninsured vehicle.

Erik C. Bivian-Garcia, 32, of the 600 block of Pinecrest Drive, Prospect Heights, was arrested on Sept. 25 at 1:03 a.m. and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol after police on routine patrol near Pfingsten Road and Maria Avenue witnessed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. An officer pulled over the car and determined the driver was intoxicated and also did not have a license. Bivian-Garcia was also issued citations for driving without insurance and improper lane usage.
