Northbrook Cultural Fair Celebrates Diversity of the Community

Free Event hosted by the Village of Northbrook and the North Suburban YMCA on February 25

Northbrook, IL, January 2024 – The Village of Northbrook’s Community Commission will present a Cultural Fair on Sunday, February 25 in partnership with the North Suburban YMCA.

The fair features live entertainment, food samples, crafts and displays representing the diverse heritage of local residents. The event runs from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Y, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook and is free and open to the public. Attendees can expect artistic displays, musical acts, dance demonstrations, education/information tables, henna artists, a karate demonstration, and samples of food from different cultures.

This year the Fair brings together a variety of local organizations including the Kandisa Performing Arts, Vijay Ganesan with featured artist Ramya MB, Korean Cultural Center, Kids kpop team “The SuperNovas,” The Ukrainian Bandura players and singers, The Thai Cultural Center of Chicago, Victoria Ng; former Miss Asian Chicago and Founder of Chicago Asian Women Empowerment, Culture in Motion with a Bollywood dance performance and many more.

Also, in attendance local vendors such as the Northbrook Public Library, Northbrook Historical Society, Korean Cultural Center of Chicago, Sound of Wishes, Congregation Beth Shalom, Thai Cultural Center and 1 For Community.

Jennifer Saperstein, Chairperson of the Northbrook Community Commission and Sam Reiss, staff liaison to the Commission, are the hosts and planners of the event for the second year. “Bringing the community together to celebrate diversity and inclusion is our Commission’s core objective and we are excited to be partnering with the YMCA to celebrate the different backgrounds of our residents again,” state Saperstein. “This year has even more participants and more vendors bringing more culture to this amazing community of Northbrook.”

“We are thrilled to once again host the Northbrook’s Cultural Fair and value our partnership with the Village of Northbrook” said Kathy Fielding, CEO at the NSYMCA. “We promise to provide our community with a meaningful, educational, and fun experience for all ages and are very proud to be a home for the community to learn, experience, and appreciate the strength of our diversity.”
