Northbrook Holds 2nd Annual Plein Air Festival
More than 50 artists from across the region will take part in the village's open-air art festival Friday through Sunday.
From the Northbrook Arts Commission: Northbrook’s 2nd Annual Plein Air Festival will feature over 50 artists from across the region painting “Plein Air” (outdoors) throughout Northbrook and the area.
Nocturne Night Plein Air Painting on Friday, September 28 (Painting Outdoors as the Sun Sets!)
The Friday evening “Nocturne Night” will be hosted in cooperation with many of Northbrook’s downtown merchants and restaurants. Artists will paint Nocturnes (paintings in twilight or evening lighting conditions) along Shermer Road and in the shopping malls along Cherry Lane. Many of the businesses will offer special incentives on Friday, September 28, from 5:30pm to 8:30 pm, to help encourage the community to visit downtown and enjoy a meal or shopping, as well as to see artists transform their canvas into wonderful works of art. Weekend Art Show & Sale – Village Green Park - Saturday, Noon-5pm & Sunday, 9am-5pm
In addition to painting demonstrations and events, there will be live music and artwork will be on display and for sale at Village Green Park (1810 Walters Ave.). Many people will buy an original piece of art for the first time at a Plein air festival and they have the opportunity to make a direct connection with the artist and see the art being created.

What’s the best way to enjoy a Plein air festival?
With 50 artists painting, it will be hard to miss them around town over the course of the 5-day event. September 26. If you have time, stop and watch the painters up-close as they are capturing a scene on canvas. Most will be happy to talk and share their insights, just respect that they may be trying to concentrate and the light is fleeting so there is always some pressure on them to work quickly. The artists will have a card that they can give you, identifying themselves, and the festival schedule.
