Northbrook May Enact Ordinance That Bans Feeding Certain Animals

Recommendation is for village to follow the lead of another suburb.

“The harborage of rats, rodents or other vermin is hereby declared to be a nuisance and injurious to the public health, safety and welfare. It shall therefore be unlawful for any person to allow conditions on property under his control to exist which will allow rats, rodents or vermin to nest, seek shelter or feed.”

Instead of attempting to enact an ordinance that “regulates human behavior” with animals, the village’s Legislation and Communication Committee told staff members to enact something similar to what Broadview has.
