Northbrook Native Nick Hardy Qualifies for U.S. Open
The University of Illinois freshman golfer qualified at a sectional in Ohio.
Nick Hardy, a freshman golfer at the University of Illinois and a Northbrook native, has qualified for the U.S. Open.
The 19-year-old earned one of four available spots Monday at a sectional qualifier in Ohio by going six-under-par on 36 holes to tie for third out of 67, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“Getting to the U.S. Open means a lot, but I am not going to rank it,” said Hardy, who has participated in two U.S. Amateurs. “I have much bigger aspirations than just making it. I have an opportunity to win the U.S. Open.”
The Open will be played June 18-21 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

During his first season at Illinois, Hardy was co-medalist at the Big Ten tournament, Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection. He was on an Illini team that reached the NCAA championship semifinals.
