Northbrook's JT Compher Named Captain of University of Michigan Hockey Team
The junior from Northbrook will lead the Wolverines on the ice his junior year.

A rising player with Northbrook as his listed hometown has been elected captain of the University of Michigan’s ice hockey team.
JT Compher, of Northbrook, was elected captain prior to his junior season, according to the team’s website.
“It’s an honor to be considered by the coaching staff and your teammates for a leadership position,” Compher said.

Head Coach Red Berenson said Compher, a 2013 second-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres, embodies what a Michigan captain should be.

“We’re looking for our captain to be a leader in every sense of the word, not just on the ice, or off the ice in the locker room, or the way he goes to school, but in the way he conducts himself, the way he represents the team, the way he interacts with players in good times and in not so good times,” Berenson said. “I think JT brings that, as a student, as a person, as a good teammate, as a player and as a leader on the ice as well as off the ice. And that’s what we’re looking for. I think that’s what we’ve got.”

Compher, enrolled in the University’s Ross School of Business, was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree during his sophomore season, a year in which he played in 34 games as an alternate captain. That year, he recorded 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists), including 10 (8G, 2A) in his final eight games.
