Northbrook Park District maintains Aaa status from Moody’s Ratings
Northbrook was among only 12 park districts, out of 105 total park districts in Illinois rated by Moody's, holding Aaa rating
The Northbrook Park District has once again been assigned the highest credit rating, Aaa, by Moody's Ratings.
Northbrook was among only 12 park districts, out of 105 total park districts in Illinois rated by Moody’s, holding Aaa rating — the highest among the credit rating agency’s 21 notches — as of last month.
“The Northbrook Park District credit profile reflects its strong local economy near Chicago, robust financial performance and moderate leverage burden,” Moody’s stated in its recent credit opinion, citing the park district’s consistent strong reserves and financial liquidity.

In 2007, Northbrook became the first park district in Illinois to be rated Aaa by Moody’s, and has maintained that over the last 18 years.
Northbrook Park District Executive Director Chris Leiner said maintaining Aaa rating is a testament to the park district’s longstanding commitment to fiscal excellence.

“The park district’s board of commissioners continues to set the course for judicious fiscal policies, thereby ensuring steady oversight of taxpayer dollars,” Leiner said.
Northbrook Park District Finance Director Mike Tokar praised the district’s collective efforts.
“We are continuing our tradition of ensuring healthy reserves and liquidity to support our future capital investment projects and long-term financial planning,” Tokar said. “We have built a strong foundation, and I am confident that we will continue to achieve great success in 2025.”
With Aaa credit rating, the district can ensure the highest levels of financial stewardship as it moves forward to support its capital improvement plans, including upcoming renovations at the Leisure Center.
