Northbrook Park District's Bike the Green returns July 23 to downtown Northbrook

Families who enjoy biking are invited to spend their afternoon with the Northbrook Park District on July 23 for a chance to ride on the Northbrook Grand Prix course and watch the professionals compete.

The Park District’s annual Bike the Green and Community Ride will take place starting at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 23 in and around Village Green Park in the heart of downtown Northbrook.

The Northbrook Grand Prix features a full day of racing in a variety of cycling categories, including professionals. The Northbrook event is Day 7 of the 10-day Chicago Grit series.

The Park District’s Bike the Green event will feature outdoor activities at Village Green Park, including bike decorating, face painting and yard games.

The Community Ride will take place at 6:05 p.m. around Village Green Park, in between the women’s pro and men’s pro races that wrap up the day.

“We’re excited to welcome families to spend time together in the park, cheer on the racers, and then enjoy the unique opportunity to ride the race course themselves after the event,” Northbrook Park District Youth Program Manager Mary Freer said.

Bikes are not required to enjoy the outdoor activities at Village Green Park.

Bikes and helmets are required for the Community Ride (electric bikes and scooters are not allowed). Participants must fill out a USA Cycling Waiver at check-in on July 23 to participate in the Community Ride.
