Northbrook Resident is a Hertz Fellowship Winner
MIT student Jordan Cotler was one of 12 nationally and 4 in Chicago-area to win the scholarship.

Jordan Cotler, a Northbrook man and undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was one of 12 national recipients of the Hertz Fellowship award.
The award, which was given to three other Chicago area residents among the 12, is a prestigious honor presented by the Fannie and John Hertz Foundation to support up to five years of graduate study in the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences.
According to the Hertz Fellowship web site, Cotler developed an original quantum cryptography protocol while in high school, earning him tenth place in the 2012 Intel Science Talent Search.

“We are pleased to welcome another cohort of extremely talented and bright individuals into the Hertz Fellowship family,” David J. Galas, PhD, Hertz Fellow and Chairman of the Fannie and John Hertz Foundation Board of Directors, said Tuesday. “The awardees truly are the best of the best. We know they will utilize this fellowship not only to pursue their scientific passion, but also to pursue research and discoveries that help others and positively impact the world.
Cotler will pursue his PhD at Stanford University in theoretical physics.
