Northbrook Students Perform at Senior Center on Election Day

[Northbrook, IL] --- Election Day is not just an important day for American citizens to perform their civic rights by casting votes to shape the country’s leadership, but also a time to come together, volunteer at polling stations, assist neighbors, and encourage civic participation. And a group of high school and middle school students from Northbrook showed their citizenship through a special performance at Xilin Senior Activity Center in Arlington Heights, IL. The meaningful event was organized by Laura Hu, a junior at Glenbrook North High School, and brought joy and entertainment to the seniors.

Five high school students from GBN (Glenbrook North High School) and two middle schoolers from Maple Middle School participated in the program. The performance featured a mix of poem reading, solo instrumental pieces (saxophone and flute), magic show, singing, modern dance and short theatrical skits that were warmly received by the audience. The performance also showcased their unique talents and enthusiasm for community service.

Xilin Senior Activity Center was highly supportive of the event, and provided Korean and Chinese translators for the show. The manager Weihong Lu highly praised the students for their service, and emphasized the importance of intergenerational engagement, with students learning from the seniors' stories and experiences, while residents enjoyed the lively performances and youthful energy.

"The students truly lifted our spirits,” said one resident at Xilin. “It’s wonderful to see young people taking the time to share their talents with us.”

This event marked another successful community service event sponsored by local nonprofit Golf with Purpose, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to fostering community spirit and involvement. The performance also provided students with a unique experience to practice empathy, gain confidence, and showcase their hard work in a welcoming, supportive environment.
