Northbrook Theatre Launches New Junior Company

Auditions will be held in August for first production.

Submitted by the Northbrook Park District

This fall, the curtain will rise on a new children’s theatre company, operated by the Northbrook Park District for students in grades 3-5. The Northbrook Theatre Jr. Company (NTJC) will join the highly regarded Northbrook Theatre Children’s Company (NTCC) in staging plays for youth and family audiences.

“Our goal is to offer affordable, high-quality recreational programs with an educational focus,” said Drew Kambach, Performing Arts Supervisor with the Park District. “With this new performance-based program, young children will have fun working on plays while learning theatre skills and teamwork. They can develop confidence as they learn to speak out and sing in front of a group.”

All participants will sing, dance and act on stage, guided by a professional staff of music, dance and drama instructors, who will share the excitement of theatre in a safe and fun setting. The final product will be a fully-produced musical, complete with sets, props, costumes and musical accompaniment.

“Using theatre to build life skills, our staff will emphasize collaboration, critical thinking, communication and creativity, as they encourage students to achieve their best.” Kambach added. “NTJC also will promote positive relationships between the students. We have seen friendships and bonds develop within our children’s company and expect the same with the junior company.”

Auditions in August

It’s been said that “there is no place like home.” And, the Northbrook Theatre will become home to a scarecrow, tin man, lion, witches and a wizard, as the new theatre company presents a one-hour adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.

Auditions are scheduled for August 26 and 27 from 5-8 p.m. at the Leisure Center and are open to children in grades 3-5.
