Northbrook Woman's Club donates over $55,000 to the Community

Northbrook, IL: 2023 – The Northbrook Woman’s Club Foundation (NWCF), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the community through philanthropy and service, donated over $55,000 for non-profit grants and student financial assistance.

In May, the NWC/F awarded $27,000 to 19 local non-profit organizations and another $28,000 to 10 Glenbrook North High School (GBN) seniors and 3 post-graduate and college students.

“The NWC/F consists of an amazing group of women that work really hard to give back to our community,” exclaims Susan Schueler, former President of NWC/F. “This time of year is exciting for our organization because it is when we get to share our successes in fundraising and support the people and organizations that make our community so wonderful.”

This year the $27,000 in grants went to many deserving non-profit organizations including Cancer Wellness Center, CATCH, Center for Enriched Living, Children’s Advocacy Center, Elyssa’s Mission, Erika’s Lighthouse, Family Service Center, GBN Grad Night, Hunger Resource Network, Journey’s: The Road Home, North Suburban YMCA, Northfield Township Food Pantry, NSSRA, Special Gifts Theatre, TotaLink2 the Community, Tri-Con Child Care Center, Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook, YWCA Evanston/North Shore, and Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center.

"CATCH is very grateful to the NWC/F for their community partnership and the generous grant awarded to us,” said Amy Oberholtzer, Founder and Executive Director, CATCH, (Community Action Together for Children's Health) and recipient of one of the NWC/F grants. “This grant supports our monthly Lunch and Learn speaker series in which we host mental health and parenting experts. None of this is possible for us without support from grants and donations.”

The NWC/F also supports local students in their education endeavors. The Glenbrook North High School Awards Ceremony took place on May 19th where ten GBN students graciously accepted their scholarship from the NWC/F. The recipients included Michael Bilous, Hayoung Byun, Mallory Gansburg, Evan Kwiatkowski, Madelynn Martinez, Ellis Mudrik, Rose Orr, Kirsten Yun, Sarah Zhang, and Ron Zontak. Other recipients of the scholarship also included 3 post-graduate and college students: Rachel Applebaum, Klaudiusz Rydzy, and Corey Skylar.

“As a low income student, I wouldn't dream of higher education without supporters like the Northbrook Woman’s Club Foundation,” said recipient Kris Yun who will be attending Northwestern University in the fall. “This scholarship will alleviate the financial burden of my education and allow me to focus on my studies and extracurricular activities. The NWC/F has inspired me to give back to my community.”

“Letters and comments like these, really teach us how important it is to support families who need us most,” states Schueler. “I am very proud to be part of an organization that believes in giving back and where women work hard to make it happen year after year.”

To date, the NWC/F has raised and donated more than $1.4 Million for grants and college scholarships, and $800,000 of thathas gone directly back to families from the Northbrook community. The NWC/F currently has over 175 members and commits approximately hundreds of hours in community service work every year. Some of the volunteer events have included supporting domestic violence shelters, feeding insecure families, mentoring local students about philanthropy, and providing handmade blankets to the sick and to local animal shelters.
