NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Jaylon N. Blake, of Northbrook, is accused of having a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:59 p.m. April 25, at Sanders and Willow roads. A court date of June 6 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Elizabeth Zavala, of Zion, is accused of reckless driving, driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, and was arrested at 1:53 a.m. April 27, at Shermer Road and Angle Avenue. A witness saw Zavala stopped at the intersection, and she appeared to be asleep. When police arrived, they found Zavala asleep, with the vehicle in drive and her foot on the brake. The officers carefully put the vehicle in park and woke Zavala. A court date of May 13 was assigned.

BURGLARY/SHOPLIFTING WARRANTS

Oscar J. Colon Cotto, of Rockford, had two active warrants out of Glendale Heights and DuPage County for burglary and shoplifting respectively, and was arrested at 11:39 p.m. April 27, at Willow and Pfingsten roads. He was turned over to the Glendale Heights Police Department, with a written warning for the traffic violation in Northbrook.

INCIDENTS

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A citizen reported to police at 6:11 a.m. April 25, seeing a gray Jeep driving aggressively eastbound on Sanders Road. When both cars stopped at the Dundee and Sanders roads intersection, the other driver stepped out of his vehicle, yelled at the complainant and threatened him. The aggressive driver sped away prior to the officers arriving.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident called police at 11:37 a.m. April 26, to report receiving a phone call from his banking institution. The staff advised him that someone in North Carolina was attempting to deposit a check into his account in the amount of $12,200 while posing as the complainant. The person was using a driver's license with the complainant’s information. The person was also trying to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money at the same time. The complaint confirmed that the person was not him and the check was probably fraudulent. The person walked out of the bank without being able to perform any illegal transactions.

FLEEING AND ELUDING

Police saw two motorcycles without any license plates at 8:35 p.m. April 26, traveling a high rate of speed at Skokie Boulevard and Dundee Road. The officer attempted to stop them, but they quickly fled from the officer and were last seen traveling southbound on the Edens Expressway.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

  • A witness noticed a small fire at 9:48 p.m. April 26, near an elementary school in the 2500 block of Cherry Lane. Once the police and fire departments arrived, they found a small playground equipment on fire. The officers extinguished the fire, but did not see anyone in the area that might have been involved.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Cayuga Drive reported at 5:07 p.m. April 30, said someone had damaged the heater to her sauna, which is located in her backyard. It appeared the person had removed the wall mounted heater and left it on the ground. The damage totaled $3,100.

CHECK THEFT/FORGERY

An Acorn Lane resident called police at 4:34 p.m. April 29, to report he had mailed a check to an insurance company in the amount of $786. Someone intercepted the check, forged a new payee and changed the check amount to $2,400. The check was cashed at an unknown location. The complainant contacted his bank and advised them of the crime.

RETAIL THEFT

The clerk at a gas station in the 1900 block of Willow Road reported at 2:39 p.m. April 30, a male had come into the store and walked to the beer cooler. The male grabbed two Modelo beers and placed them in his pants. The male walked out of the store without paying. The total value of the beers was $7.48.
