Smash-and-Grab Burglars Steal ATMs; Stolen Car Disabled: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department as a record of incidents reported to the police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
RETAIL THEFTS
- Staff at the Northbrook Court Louis Vuitton reported around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 3o that three men or boys and two women or girls came into the store together and one of them stole a men's belt.
- Someone used wire cutters to steal five jackets from the Bloomingdale's Outlet at 145 Skokie Blvd. around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 6.
- Staff at the Bloomingdale's also reported two women or girls cut a security cable and stole a coat around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.
IDENTITY THEFTS

- A Chapel Court resident reported on the morning of Dec. 1 that someone had used their identity to open a new AT&T account and buy an iPhone.
- A Shermer Road resident reported on the night of Dec. 5 that they had received several checkbooks they had never ordered from a credit union in their name.
- A Fairview Lane resident reported on the afternoon of Dec. 10 they were notified that someone had opened a PayPal account using their name in 2017.
VANDALISM
- A resident reported discovering graffiti in the 1200 block of Cedar Lane on the morning of Dec. 2.
- A resident reported the discovery of graffiti in the rear of a building in the 1400 block of Shermer Road on the afternoon of Dec. 2.
- Graffiti was also found on the morning of Dec. 3 on the inner wall of an underpass in the 1900 block of Cherry Lane.
- Someone removed snow plow markers from the side of a yard in the 3600 block of Russett Lane twice in the week leading up to Dec. 7, police were told. The markers were left in the yard.
THEFTS

- A patron at the Trader Joe's, 127 Skokie Blvd., reported that someone stole their wallet from inside a purse between 11:30 a.m. and 12:25 p.m.
- A patron of the Panera Bread, 772 Skokie Blvd., reported around 3:45 p.m. Dec. 8 that someone had stolen their wallet as they ate.
FRAUD
- An employee at a real estate investment firm in the 600 block of Dundee Road reported on the morning of Dec. 5 that someone had made an unspecified amount of fraudulent charges on a business account.
- Staff at the HomeGoods at 840 Willow Road reported on the morning of Dec. 5 that someone had used an altered receipt to return what appeared to be stolen merchandise.
- Someone used a company credit card to make multiple unauthorized fuel purchases totaling nearly $630 between Nov. 19 and Dec. 8.
STOLEN CARS
- A resident in the 800 block of Bach Street reported around 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 8 that an acquaintance of their grandson had stolen a vehicle, which was found a short time later by another department.
- A resident in the 1600 block of Birch Road reported that an unidentified person stole their car between 8 p.m. Dec. 9 and 7:30 a.m. Dec. 10. Police reported an overhead garage door opener was missing from another car parked in the driveway, with the contents of its center console found strewn around the interior.
- Someone stole a car from the 3100 block of Oliver Lane shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 10. The car's owner contacted the manufacturer and managed to disable the vehicle remotely. It was soon found by South Holland police.
CAR BURGLARY/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone broke the front passenger window of a car parked outside Lifetime Fitness, 1100 Skokie Blvd., and stole a purse from inside prior to 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 3.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO HOLIDAY LIGHTS
A resident in the 2500 block of Oak Avenue reported that someone had cut the corn to their holiday nights between 6 p.m. Dec. 8 and 7 a.m. Dec. 9.
TRESPASSING/CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone got into a construction site in the 800 block of Timber's Edge Lane and managed to take control of a locked excavator inside a fenced-off area that was marked with ac"No Trespassing" sign. Fencing was knocked over and damaged for an unspecified loss.
CAR BURGLARY
A resident in the 3100 block of Oliver Lane reported someone stole cash from inside the center console of their car prior to 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 10.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
- Someone broke a glass front door of a business in the 1100 block of Waukegan Road around 3 a.m. on Dec. 12 and stole a cash register from inside.
- Someone stole a floor-mounted ATM from inside a business in the 800 block of Skokie Boulevard after breaking the glass nearby.
- Someone stole an ATM and an iPad from a business in the 500 block of Dundee Road between 9:30 a.m. Dec. 11 and 6:15 a.m. Dec. 12.

ARRESTS
A 44-year-old Northbrook man was arrested around 11 p.m. on Nov. 28 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the area of Skokie Boulevard and Sunset Ridge Road. He was also issued improper lane usage and expired registration citations.
A 35-year-old Buffalo Grove man was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the area of Dundee and Portwine roads and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A 47-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 9 a.m. on Dec. 3 by officers who arrived at the scene of a traffic crash at the intersection of Waukegan and Shermer roads in which she was involved and charged with driving with a suspended license.
A 32-year-old Palatine man was arrested around 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 5 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 3400 block of Willow Road.
A 21-year-old Northbrook man was arrested around 12:43 a.m. on Dec. 9 and issued speeding, expired registration, no insurance and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol citations following a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Shermer Road.
