Spartans Place Second in State Soccer Tournament

Locals impress in first appearance in state tournament since the 1990s.

Spartan FC U-13 Boys Select placed second this year in the Illinois Youth Soccer Association State Cup Championship over the weekend in Rockford, IL. The boys lost 2-0 to the Chicago Magic Pre Academy in a well played game.

The Club, based in Northbrook, is very proud to have a Northbrook team represented in the State Cup Finals again in club soccer (first time since the 1990’s).

This group of boys have worked very hard collectively to achieve this success.  They defeated high profile programs such as: FC Barrington (3-0), Eclipse (1-0), and ELA (2-0) to secure their place in the final match, coach Yianny Caparos said. He said he and coach Darryl Skale have asked so much from these boys and they continue to impress them on how strong and willing they are.

"They have made a tremendous commitment to themselves, each other, and to us which makes this accomplishment so sweet.  This team has played in many national and regional tournaments which they have fared quite well over the past 12 months," Caparos said.
