St. Norbert School Math Scores Soar

Greg Richmond, Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago, visited St. Norbert School in Northbrook on Friday, October 27 to present students and faculty with a Certificate of Achievement in Math for their excellent performance across all grade levels in the 2022-2023 mathematics assessment. St. Norbert School showed the most growth of all Catholic schools in Suburban Cook County.

“I was so impressed by all of the students, teachers, and staff I met today,” said Richmond. “In every classroom, I saw great things happening with math.”

In addition to meeting with students, the superintendent commended Dr. Maggie Hoody, St. Norbert School principal, for her leadership, and spoke to the mathematics faculty, who shared their curriculum and class engagement strategies which make St. Norbert’s math initiatives such a success. Dr. Hoody has placed a special emphasis on strengthening St. Norbert’s already robust math programming.

“Our smaller class sizes offer a real advantage to students when it comes to acquiring math skills,” says Hoody. “But above all, our amazing teachers spend the time needed to ensure that every student receives instruction that is personalized to their skill level and learning style. This is really critical at the elementary and middle school levels. I’m so proud of our students.”

Students enjoyed the visit – and the recognition.

“It was cool that Mr. Richmond took the time to come pay us a visit,” said Alfonso Tafur, a St. Norbert seventh grader from Northfield. “And the way we are learning math makes it less intimidating – even fun.”
