Stern Selected As Interim School Board Member For District 31

NORTHBROOK, IL — Following a resignation last month, the West Northfield School District 31 Board of Education has a new member. Darrin Stern will fill the seat on an interim basis starting April 27 and will serve through April 2025.

Stern replaces Meredith Estes, who resigned from her seat last month.

According to the district, Stern brings extensive experience in strategic planning, budgeting, and project management. He also has deep ties in the community through his volunteerism and community engagement.

In 2009, Stern founded a non-profit organization, the Chicago Clean Energy Alliance, and served as the president from 2011 to 2013. In 2016, Stern joined the District 31 Education Foundation and served as the co-chair for the Winter Benefit before becoming president. During his tenure, the Education Foundation raised money to complete Maker Spaces, funded improvements for outdoor play areas, and reinstituted direct teacher grants. Stern has two daughters currently at Field Middle School.

"I want to serve as an interim member of the Board of Education because I am passionate about education and can positively contribute to the community by serving on the board," Stern said. "Education is the foundation of our society, and every student deserves a high-quality, equal education that prepares them for a successful future. As an interim board member, I will work tirelessly to ensure that our schools provide the best possible education."
