ARRESTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • Peter Davidson, of Lincolnwood, had an arrest warrant for retail theft, and was arrested at 10:48 p.m. Jan. 24, in the 1400 block of Landwehr Road. According to police, Davidson had stolen a high-end coat and knit hat from a retail store totaling $325. Lincolnwood police stopped him in his car and took him into custody for the Northbrook warrant. A court date of Jan. 25 was assigned.
  • While on proactive patrol, police saw a suspicious person walking around in a parking lot of a shopping center in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. The person, later identified as Yoni Paz, of Berwyn, saw the officer and nervously walked to the edge of the parking lot. Another person, later identified as Juan Caleroperdomo, of Berwyn, walked out of a retail store and quickly got into a blue Ford sedan after seeing the officer. The officer proceeded to follow the vehicle in the parking lot while a retail theft was called in from the store the two were first seen at. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to Caleroperdomo, but he reportedly provided a fake name. Other officers arrived and stopped Paz, who was still on foot. Caleroperdomo had several stolen items inside the vehicle, which consisted of clothing. The loss prevention staff stated there was a third person involved that ran from the store as well. They were able to grab the stolen proceeds from that person before he ran away. An officer saw the third person and ran after him. The person ran on to the Edens Expressway and was able to elude the officer. Once at the police department, officers learned the true identity of Caleroperdomo through his fingerprints. The group had utilized a shielding device to keep the theft alarms going off when they stole the items, as well as an illegal anti-theft tag removing tool. During the investigation, it was also learned all three had previously gone into a sporting goods store and stole several items there as well. Paz was charged with two felony counts of retail theft, possession of a theft detection shielding device. Caleroperdomo was charged with possession of a theft detection shielding device, unlawful obstructing ID, no valid driver's license, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
