Thief Steals 12 Cases Of Beer From Store: Northbrook Police Blotter

A passenger in the thief's getaway car had an active arrest warrant out of DuPage County for retail theft, according to police.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRUG POSSESSION

Thomas H. Cyr, of Northbrook, is accused of possession of a controlled substance, and was arrested at 9:47 a.m. June 16, in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. According to police, the security for an area retail stores said a subject, later identified as Cyr, was reportedly walking around with what appeared to be rifle ammunition attached to his belt. Officers made contact with Cyr, who they say had .223 caliber ammunition attached to his belt. While speaking to Cyr, the officers also located a white powder containing heroin in his backpack. The ammunition was determined to be “dummy” rounds. A court date of July 5 was assigned.

SUSPENDED REGISTRATION

Gian J. Frias, of Chicago, is accused of driving with a suspended registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, having a defective headlight, and was arrested at 9:26 p.m. June 16, at Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard. A court date of July 18 was assigned.

RETAIL THEFT

The manager of a retail store in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road called police at 7:40 a.m. June 17, to report a person in the store, later identified as Iran McCoy, of Chicago, reportedly entered the store and started loading cases of beer on to a handcart. The manager told police they were confused since there weren't supposed to be deliveries that day. McCoy allegedly walked out of the store with 12 cases of beer. McCoy then loaded the stolen beer into a pickup truck and fled the area. Later, Wilmette police identified the same truck near a Walgreens and stopped to speak to the drive and two occupants. They identified McCoy as the one that stole the beer and charged all three with retail theft. In addition, Shannon M. Shaughnessy, of Addison, had an active arrest warrant out of DuPage County for retail theft. She was taken to their lockup facility after being released from Northbrook. The court date is set for July 20.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Jeordyn C. Famous, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, is accused of having a defective license plate light, suspended registration, driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 2:32 a.m. June 18, in the 600 block of Charlemagne Drive. While speaking to a passenger of the car, police noticed Janiah Crump, also of Kenosha, had an illegal conducted energy device (stun gun) with her without a FOID card. She was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. Famous’ court date is set for July 13 and Crump’s court date is set for July 20.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARY

A resident in the 2900 block of Keystone Road reported at 5:17 p.m. June 15, the rear door to their home had been kicked in. Police said the interior of the house was ransacked, who added that it was unknown what specifically was missing at the time of the report.

HIT-AND-RUN

A witness called police at 10:54 a.m. June 17, to report seeing a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at Brentwood and Shermer roads. The vehicle had fled the scene and the pedestrian was laying on the ground. When the police and fire departments arrived, the pedestrian was treated for multiple injuries and transported to the hospital.

THEFT

  • A complainant reported on June 17, that his cell phone was stolen during a event at a high school on June 7 in the 2300 block of Shermer Road.
  • The staff of a retail store in the 1900 block of Cherry Lane called police at 2:26 p.m. June 17, to report someone in a pickup truck stole 20 wooden pallets from behind the store early in the morning.

FLEE AND ELUDE

Police saw a silver Buick disobey at red light and traveling at a high rate of speed at 11:45 p.m. June 18, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. While trying to catch up to the vehicle, the officer saw the vehicle driving into the oncoming lanes as well. The officer activated the emergency lights, but the vehicle fled the area.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

  • A resident in the 3900 block of Russett Lane reported at 12:08 p.m. June 21, someone had entered their unlocked vehicles while they were parked in their driveways. Even though the contents were rummaged through, it did not appear that anything was taken.
  • A resident in the 2500 block of Dundee Road called police at 2:52 p.m. June 21, to report someone entered her unlocked vehicle while she took her dog for a walk. The subject stole cash and other personal belongings.
