NORTHBROOK, IL. Young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) transitioning from public school to adulthood often become disconnected from their friends and social connections. Many of their peers are leaving home for college and the structure that public school provided is no longer available. TotalLink2 Community, a non-profit organization based in Northbrook and serving the north suburbs of Chicago, is addressing some of the issues faced by young people with IDD as they move from school life to adulthood.
TotalLink provides Social Connections and Life-Long Learning opportunities for these young adults to create a sense of belonging and worth. A variety of fun programs are offered in the community including Karaoke Night, Movie Night Out, Art Lab for Everyone, Girlfriends Group, Guys Night Out and More. Over 60 individuals participate in events throughout the year. In addition to providing social activities, TotalLink provides community-based employment services for young adults with IDD in the North Shore.
