Trump Flag Stolen From Pole Next to Garage: Northbrook Police Blotter

The resident did not provide police with a timeline for when he had last seen the brown and gold flag.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE

Dick G. Jones, of Danville, is accused of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 5:56 p.m. July 1, in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. The officer confirmed that the vehicle — a white Toyota Camry — was stolen from Melrose Park on June 27. Jones has a court date set for July 15.

SUSPENDED VEHICLE REGISTRATION

Kevin I. Ganious, Jr., of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended vehicle registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, expired registration, and was arrested at 9:01 p.m. July 1, at Willow and Waukegan roads. Ganious Jr. has a pending court date of Aug. 4.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

A staff member of a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 5:29 p.m. June 30, several people entered the store, removed the security tags from several handbags and fled the area in a Mazda sports utility vehicle. Management said the total loss is between $10,000-$15,000. The suspects are described as:

  • No. 1 — female, short, heavy set, dark hair in a ponytail, wearing a white shirt, red pants and a cloth facemask
  • No. 2 — male, heavy set, wearing a black facemask, white shirt, blue shorts
  • No. 3 — male, tall, skinny, short hair with dreads, wearing a facemask, black shirt
  • No. 4 — male, tall, skinny, hair with dreads, wearing flip-flops
  • No. 5 — male, tall, skinny, hair with dreads

STOLEN VEHICLE

  • The owner of a property in the 500 block of Sanders Road called police at 12:47 p.m. July 1, to report his 1995 Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from the backyard. The owner does not live at the premise and the house are currently vacant. The house is being used as storage until he can move. The motorcycle was last seen in the backyard on June 16.
  • A resident in the 2600 block of Greenwood Road reported at 6:34 a.m. July 6, that when she arrived home, she accidentally dropper her vehicle's keys on the floor of the front seat of her white 2019 Jeep Cherokee. After she got her child out of the car and into the house, she forgot to retrieve her vehicle’s keys and lock it. When she came out the next morning, she noticed someone had stolen her vehicle.

THEFT

A resident in the 2000 block of Plymouth Lane reported at 1:01 p.m. July 2, he discovered his brown and gold “Trump” flag missing from a pole that was next to his garage. He did not provide a timeline for when the flag was last seen.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCE

A person in the 800 block of Willow Road called police at 3:15 p.m. July 2, to report she was approached by two men offering dent repair for her vehicle in the 800 block of Willow Road. The complainant became suspicious of their motives. After declining their services several times, the two men finally left the area in a gray Toyota. The complainant wanted to report it in case it was a scam. The officers drove around the area but were unsuccessful in locating the suspects. They are described as:

  • No. 1 — male, late 20s to early 30s, possibly wearing a pink polo shirt
  • No. 2 - male, late 20s to 30s

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 1800 block of Somerset Lane reported at 4:12 p.m July 2, he and his wife left the residence in the early afternoon. When they returned, they noticed the rear sliding glass door to be ajar and the lock was defeated. After looking around the house, it was apparent someone had rummaged through the master bedroom and stole the homeowners’ jewelry.

DEATH INVESTIGATION

  • Police responded to an assisted living establishment at 11:41 p.m. July 3, to assist with a medical emergency in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard. The resident was later pronounced deceased due to a cardiac event.
  • A person called police at 7:05 p.m. July 4, to report he had not heard from his family member and asked officers to check on her in the 2200 block of Founders Drive. Officers, at the family member’s request, made entry into the residence and found the family member deceased. Death was determined to be of natural cause.
