Water Bottle Thrown During Road Rage Incident: Northbrook PD Blotter

Both parties told police they cut each other off during lane changes and were flashing lights at each other.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • Jonathan Gonzalez Gutierrez, of Skokie, is accused of speeding, improper lane usage, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 8:20 p.m. April 5, at Dundee and Sanders roads. A court date of April 30 was assigned.
  • Vivian Gutierrez, of Chicago, is accused of driving with a suspended registration, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 2:54 p.m. April 6, in the 3300 block of Dundee Road. A court date of April 30 was assigned.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT/ROAD RAGE

Ziola V. Serrano, of Norridge, is accused of disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 12:45 p.m. April 9, following a road rage incident at Pfingsten and Dundee roads. Both the complainant and Serrano said they cut each other off during lane changes and were flashing lights at each other. During the argument, Serrano threw a water bottle and the complainant’s car. A court date of May 7 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

A general contractor at a construction site in the 100 block of Point Drive reported at 8:54 a.m. April 4, someone had entered the fenced area of the property and stole $22,000 worth of construction materials and tools. The stolen items ranged from construction lumber, flooring materials and power tools.

THEFT

  • A complainant at an assisted living facility in the 200 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 3:05 p.m. April 4, that he had noticed his money had been taken out of his bag from his room. So far, the complainant has had $300.stolen from his room.
  • A resident of the 1800 block of Ivy Lane called police at 7:26 p.m. April 8, to report he had his mower serviced by his local mechanic and when they completed the work, they dropped off the mower on the side of his garage. The complainant said when he got home though, the mower was not there. It appeared that after the mower was dropped off, someone had stolen it. The green Lawnboy was valued at $300.

INTERNET SCAM

A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 10:19 p.m. April 4, she had posted furniture for sale on a website. The buyer claimed they couldn’t “Zelle” her the payment since she didn’t have a business account. They asked her to send $500 through to validate her account, and then they could send the payment and $500 back. After several transactions of doing this, the complainant realized it was a scam, and that she had sent over $10,000 electronically to the subject. The subject refuses to send it back

PHONE SCAM

A Shermer Road resident called police at 10:39 a.m. April 10, to report receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be a detective from a suburban police department. The person said they were investigating a missing person’s case and asked him to take a test to rule him out. They claimed the testing fee was the complaint’s responsibility and he would have to pay through various cash apps to perform them. The complainant complied and paid a total of $2,850 through four different cash apps. After speaking to a friend about the unusual phone call, he realized he had been scammed.

MAIL THEFT

A resident of the 3400 block of Harris Drive reported at 5:04 p.m. April 8, he had purchased collector baseball cards and had them shipped to his house via the U.S. mail. When the package arrived, he noticed the envelope was torn open and the contents were missing. He never saw anyone near his mailbox after the mail carrier delivered the mail that day. The total loss was $150.

FORGERY/AUTO THEFT

A First Street resident called police at 3:22 p.m. April 9, to report she had advertised her 2019 Toyota Highlander for sale on the internet. When someone responded wanting to purchase the vehicle, the complainant drove to a location in Chicago to have them look at it. After the buyer looked over the vehicle, the buyer handed the complainant a cashier’s check for $23,000. The complainant accepted the check, signed the title over and gave the vehicle to the buyer. After several days the complainant was advised by the bank that the check wasn’t valid.
