Fathers Helping Fathers Hosts Event Providing Resources for Dads

The non-profit organization presents first-ever 'Dad School' event to provide free legal advice, social and support services for Dads.

Fathers Helping Fathers (FHF) is a national, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has quietly been providing an array of support services for Dads, since 2006.

The organization’s goal is to conduct, “educational classes and development programs that help fathers in every aspect of parenting from prenatal classes to toddler training to dealing with teenagers.”

An additional aim is to ensure that Dads become the best parents they can be, so that they can positively contribute to the child’s development.

‘Dad School’ is a first-time event hosted by Fathers Helping Fathers, which will be held on the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) campus. It was developed to create awareness of the many resources available to fathers. Additionally, on the day of the event, resources including legal advice, and information about social service and other parenting supports will be provided, free of charge.

“Though we have literally been working under the radar over the last several years, we are interested in making more Dads aware of how we can help,” said Aaron Del Mar, co-founder of FHF. “When there are issues relating to child custody, visitation and other circumstances that affect the relationships between a child and their father, we want Dads to know they can reach out to us and they will be connected to the resources they need.”

The event will include family law attorneys volunteering their time to privately answer questions from Chicagoland area fathers. Social service agencies from the metropolitan area also will be at the event to communicate a range of resources Dads can take advantage of.

“We encourage Dads to pre-register for this event, and want them also to know there will be sessions throughout the day aimed at providing education and resources they may not know are available to them,” said Sara Cox, FHF event chair.

Dad School will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, 60607. For more information about Dad School, visit http://fhfdadschool.com/.
