Community Corner

Luv your hood? Chicago Greeter needs you!

So you think you live in one of Chicago's greatest neighborhoods? Share what you love about it as a volunteer Greeter!

Chicago Greeter is made up of 200 volunteers who welcome visitors into their Chicago neighborhoods to explore beyond downtown. The program pairs the out-of-towner with a friendly local for a FUN, casual guided walk… no standard tourist scripts, just one-on-one chats where you point out the local places you enjoy and are proud to share, whether it’s great street art or street food, historic corner pubs, a hidden park, a fun shop, small galleries, etc.

With another busy summer coming around, Chicago Greeter needs volunteers from communities like North Center, Roscoe Village, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park/Bucktown, Bridgeport, Hyde Park, Logan Square, Pilsen, etc. so we can continue to promote them. Residents with language skills are a plus, but everyone is welcome to join.

Just as a background, the Greeter service is free, has been around for over 10 years in Chicago, and gets great feedback - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g35805-d285329-Reviews-Chicago_Greeter-Chicago_Illinois.html. It is also one of only 3 such programs in the US, though nearly 70 international destinations are part of the Global Greeter Network - http://www.globalgreeternetwork.info/.
