Rod Blagojevich to Appeal Prison Sentence Again

The disgraced former governor will ask an appellate court to overturn a 14-year prison sentence.

CHICAGO, IL — Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will once again appeal his 14-year prison sentence.

Blagojevich’s lawyer Leonard Goodman filed notice of a new appeal with the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Earlier this month, Blagojevich was re-sentenced to the same amount of time he was given years ago after he was first convicted of his crimes.

Blagojevich was originally found guilty on 18 corruption charges — including an attempt to "sell" Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat after his election to the presidency. He was famously heard on a federal wiretap peppered with profane comments as he discussed the appointment he could make and what he could get in exchange.

"I've got this thing and it's f---ing golden," he said on the wiretap.

An appellate court ordered a new sentencing hearing last year after some charges were dropped from his original conviction. The same appellate court previously kept the same sentence intact for Blagojevich.
