Still No Sign of Dogs in Horner Park

Horner Park neighborhood residents are slowly signing petitions to bring a dog-friendly area to the park. Get an update on the process and learn what you can do to speed it along.

A petition to turn the south end of Horner Park into a dog-friendly area is in the works, but the process officials must go through—dictated by the Chicago Park District—is proving to be a long one.

The first step in the process requires the Dog Friendly Area Committee to petition the neighborhood within a 5-block radius of the park. That process remained under way late last week, according to the Horner Park Advisory Council's website.

The council encourages all neighborhood residents wanting to sign the petition to either attend council meetings on the first Monday of every month or attend community meetings regarding the proposal.

The area in question is a 1.8-acre section of Horner Park. It would be converted to a synthetic turf, which is lead-free and safe for dogs.
