Students In North Center Create Art To 'Change The World'
Students will address social and political issues through 'ARTivism' Wednesday.

CHICAGO, IL — Students at Alexander Graham Bell Elementary School in North Center are "finding their voices" through art at the annual Bell Fine Arts Night Wednesday. The theme for the event is 'ARTivism' — the intersection of art and activism, the school announced. The theme is inspired by the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainability for 2030, art teacher Shana Pearlmutter said.
Two "We Can Change the World" murals, designed and painted by students, will be unveiled at the event along Oakley Avenue. The murals represent turning ideas into actions, leading by example and working for a more just world, Pearlmutter said.
More than twenty stations at the event will be staffed by students, highlighting issues such as feminism, social justice, equality and climate change. There will also be a sing along with protest songs, and visitors will be encouraged to write their own "change the world" rap and express their ideas on a public soapbox, organizers said.
