New Trier has also criticized the plan, warning it could shift higher taxes onto nearby communities. Village officials expect a decision in September, and District 29 plans to stay closely involved.

Police Reports: Cash stolen from gas station, multiple stolen cars (therecordnorthshore.org) — Recent police reports for the North Shore include a June 4 car burglary in Northfield’s 1500 block of Mount Pleasant Street. Nearby towns saw stolen packages, cash taken from a Highland Park gas station, and multiple stolen or burglarized cars in Skokie. All incidents are preliminary reports, and those mentioned are presumed innocent.

3. Fleet's Aerin Frankel a double-winner at PWHL Awards as Goaltender of the Year and Billie Jean King MVP Award (bostonglobe.com) — A former Fleet rookie from Northfield forward Ella Huber, appeared in every regular-season game and four playoff contests before being reacquired by Boston in a trade with PWHL Detroit. The story highlights goaltender Aerin Frankel’s historic MVP and Goaltender of the Year sweep, along with major awards for teammates Haley Winn and captain Megan Keller after a record-setting season.

4. West Nile discovered in Wilmette mosquitoes — first local occurrence this season (therecordnorthshore.org) — West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes trapped in nearby Wilmette, marking the first positive sample this season in an area that includes Northfield. Risk to humans is currently rated low, but officials expect virus activity to rise later in summer. Residents are urged to use repellent, wear loose clothing, avoid peak mosquito hours, and remove standing water.
