Synagogue Shooting Claims Lives Of Lombard Woman's Brothers

Cecil and David Rosenthal were among the 11 people killed when a gunman opened fire on Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

LOMBARD, IL --- Americans are still reeling from the shooting that killed 11 people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh Saturday. The tragedy hit close to home for one Lombard woman, Diane Rosenthal Hirt, who lost two of her brothers, David, 54, and Cecil Rosenthal, 59, in the massacre.

Rosenthal Hirt is a member of Congregation Etz Chaim in Lombard and is mourning the loss of her brothers with her husband and two daughters, according to a Facebook post from the synagogue. The post expressed the congregation's "deepest sympathies" for the "murder of [Rosenthal Hirt's] two brothers."

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Cecil and David Rosenthal went to the Tree of Life synagogue weekly, where they worked as greeters and volunteered with children who had intellectual disabilities. The brothers were described as "fixtures in the synagogue."
