Bremen High School Celebrates Community Appreciation Week

School decides to raise funds for community rather than have staff celebration this year

In early May, all District 228 schools typically celebrate an employee appreciation week that celebrates all the staff throughout the district. The celebrations include a variety of activities such as small gifts, breakfast bars, or a catered lunch as determined by each school. This year, Bremen High School decided to turn its staff appreciation celebration into a community appreciation week.

Instead of having administration purchase a gift card or host a virtual celebration for staff, Bremen High School decided to team up with Double Good Popcorn to host a virtual fundraiser.

Staff set up their own virtual popcorn platforms and asked family and friends to purchase popcorn from them. For all of the funds raised, Double Good offered to give 50 percent of the profits back to Bremen High School to give to any organization of its choice.

The school raised $10,967 in total sales, meaning Double Good awarded Bremen High School $5,500. Bremen will use the money to help any of its families who are in need during the pandemic while also supporting local businesses. More specifically, the school will be distributing meals and gift cards to families purchased from local restaurants and grocers. Bremen will also be making a donation to a local food pantry.

Bremen High School’s community appreciation week stems from an earlier collaboration with Double Good Popcorn. The popcorn organization donated 100 bags of popcorn to be distributed to families during lunch pickups at District 228 schools in April. Click here for more information.
