Central Avenue Reopened After Car, Train Crash Investigation: City

Central Avenue is now open to traffic following an investigation into a car and Metra train collision.

OAK FOREST, IL β€” Central Avenue has reopened to traffic as of 6:15 p.m. Friday, following several hours closed from 159th to 167th streets as authorities investigated after a car and train collided in the crossing Friday afternoon.

Early reports indicated the driver of the car drove around the gate at the 167th Street and Central Avenue crossing, striking the train at around 1 p.m., said Michael Gillis, a media relations representative for Metra. Gillis clarified that as of 3 p.m., it's unclear if the car struck the train, or if they collided in the crossing. Cook County Sheriff's officers and Metra police are on scene investigating.

No passengers were injured. The driver of the car was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital. Her condition is not known. A passenger in the car was not injured.
