Donna Miller, Cook County Commissioner from the 6th District opened her office in Oak Forest. Commissioner Miller’s office is located within the Oak Forest Village hall building located at 15440 S. Central.

“We chose Oak Forest because it’s centrally located within the 6th District” said Commissioner Miller. “Mayor Kuspa had space for us and he wanted to make it work so that we may also have collaboration between various levels of government. Looking to work together between municipal and county levels.”

Friends, Mayors and family joined Cook County Commissioner Miller as she cut the ribbon to her new office which is painted a bright pink.

“We want constituents to come by” said Commissioner Miller. The office will be open at least three days a week. “We can set up appointments if the hours don’t work. We want it as convenient as possible for 6th District residents to meet with myself or my staff. We are looking to also be out in the community. I’m hosting Coffee with the Commissioner in various communities” she adds.

The 6th District consists of various boundaries within the townships of Bloom, Bremen, Thornton, Orland, Palos, Rich, Lyons and Worth.

“My goals are simple” explains Commissioner Miller. “It’s very important to have open communication. My three main priorities are going to be economic development, partnering with the different Mayors on increasing businesses in the Southland. Cook County has a strategic plan, they put forth in focusing on the Southland. Looking into the South Suburban Growth initiative. Number two is property tax assessment reform. I just had a unanimous resolution go through the county board that supports a bill for the data modernization act. The new assessor is down in Springfield advocating for transparency and accessibility that we can have numbers that support the businesses. That will also help with property tax assessments. The third is healthcare. My background is in healthcare, I want to focus on healthy communities. We’re going to getting a lot of information on health initiatives to the communities. Healthy communities start with healthy people. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Cook County. What can we do to change those outcomes, to have residents learn CPR and AAD trained and to call 911. Those three simple steps can change outcomes for heart disease.”

As the ribbon cutting was about to get under way, Commissioner Miller encourages people to engage.

“We want to be visible, we want to be transparent, we want people to come out and partner with us. You’re welcome to walk in parades with us. I’m inviting everyone to come down and see how Cook County works. Come to a board meeting, it’s open to the public.

“Everybody loves where they live” said Commissioner Miller. “If I can bring more resources they can take advantage of, it makes life better.”
