The district was one of 16 in the state to receive funds for its journalism program from the association and Illinois Farm Bureau.

OAK FOREST, IL β The Bremen High School District 228 journalism program, located in Midlothian, Illinois, is one of 16 high school programs in the state to receive a journalism grant from the Illinois Press Foundation and Illinois Farm Bureau. The awards are part of the Illinois High School Journalism Grants program, offered by the Illinois Press Foundation, and are financially sponsored this year by Illinois Farm Bureau.
According to the Illinois Press Foundation, more than $21,000 total in grants were distributed to the schools to pay for laptops, cameras, podcasting stations and more.
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, Executive Director of the Illinois Press Foundation, Jeff Rogers, awarded Bremen High School District 228 a check in the amount of $1,439.40. The grant will be used to purchase 12 MOVO photo and video kits for students to use while mobile reporting.

βThis grant is a great opportunity for the Bremen District 228 Television program because it will offer students the ability to produce professional quality journalism for our community,β said Michael Lynch, Media Advisor and sponsor of the Digital Media Production program.
The foundation says this award was created to continue to inspire creativity within youth through programs, similar to the one conducted at Bremen High School, across the state.

According to Jeff Rogers, this yearβs group of grant recipients is especially interesting because not only is there a variety in the regions where the schools are located, but thereβs a diversity in the forms of journalism being practiced; such as student newspapers, agriculture programs, multimedia digital platforms, podcasts, film clubs and even a TV news broadcast.
