Friends Flood Social Media with Support for Woman Critically Injured in Crash

Jamie Stanczyk sustained serious injuries when the car she was driving was struck by a drunk driver Jan. 18. She is still unconscious.

A 32-year-old Tinley Park woman who was critically injured Jan. 18 when her car was struck by an alleged drunken driver who ran a red light, has inspired an outpouring of support through social media.

Jamie Stanczyk is in stable condition after suffering three broken ribs and swelling in her brain; however, she remains unconscious. Her husband Steve is asking supporters to share on Facebook and Instagram ”selfies” in her honor, using the hashtag #selfiesforJ.

Though she can’t see them now, he hopes to share them with her when she is conscious. While she is unconscious, he describes the photos and who has shared them, as she shows some response to auditory cues.

Stanczyk and Steve have been together 17 years, and married since August 2008. She was driving home from dropping him at a friend’s house when her car was struck in the intersection of 159th and Harlem. Stanczyk was raised in Chicago and attended Resurrection High School.

Her husband describes her as a “fighter, a tough girl,” and friends say she would do anything, for anyone.

A woman whom her husband describes as, “outgoing, quick-witted, and extremely loveable with a laugh that is unforgettable,” she has moved many to shows of affection online—one even serenading her with, “That’s what friends are for.”
