Kerkstra Elementary Drama Club Performs "Bed Bugs"

District 142’s G. Kerkstra Elementary’s 5th Grade Drama club performed the play, Bed Bugs, on February 26, 2015. The Drama Club completed two performances: one during the day at a school assembly and the second in the evening for family and friends. Drama Club Coordinators, Ms. Elizabeth Boersma and Mrs. Leah Carney, helped the students bring the script to life. All of the Bed Bugs characters were colorfully dressed, with striped socks, wigs and sparkling antennas. The Bed Bugs’ Cast of Characters, in order of appearance was:

Michaela P. (as Mother), Jordan S. (as Marie), Mikayla M. (as Squish), Christina H. (as Doodle), Morgan T. (as Ledoo), Vanessa J. (as Zoop), Lydia H. (as Boogle), Abigail S. (as Mayor Snickles), Jimena F. (as Sue), Mackenzie E. (as Patsy), Cody E. (as Peter), Michaela P. (as “R”), Carter B. (as “X”), Eliana H. (as Penelope), and Grecia M. (as Whoops)

Additionally, 5th Graders, Leticia C. and Mahd B., took care of the Stage and Scenery Crew needs.

Bed Bugs tells the story of a little girl who jumps on her bed and doesn’t realize that she’s jumping on tiny bed bugs that have names, personalities, families, and a community. The little girl and the bed bugs soon realize they can all live together if they respect each other’s space. The little girl builds a home for the bed bugs and the bed bugs agree to not bite the little girl. In the end, everyone lives in harmony.
