Marist's Nic Weishar Receives All-American Jersey

Midlothian resident Nic Weishar and Marist High School senior was tapped for the extremely selective bowl game coming in January 2014.

Marist High School senior Nic Weishar was selected as a U.S. Army All-American, and received his game day jersey Nov. 25 during an official ceremony at the school. 

Representatives from the U.S. Army All-American Bowl were on-hand to present the jersey. Weishar, of Midlothian, is one of only 90 student-athletes in the country to get an invite. The game will take place on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The annual East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 12 p.m. CST.

Weishar’s career at Marist includes 256 receptions—an Illinois state record, 3,284 receiving yards, and 28 touchdown catches. He also had a great run on the other side of the ball, becoming a dominant force for the RedHawks as an outside lineman.Weishar was selected by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee, which consists of All American Games and 247Sports. U.S. Army All-Americans are eligible for a variety of personal awards as well. All-Americans create an elite group of athletes, as more than 200 alumni of the bowl are now playing in the NFL.

Beyond football, Weishar is a stellar student, carrying an honors courseload and maintaining involvement in clubs, including serving as an officer for the student ambassador group. He is also an integral member of Marist’s basketball program, and is looking forward to the 2013 season. Weishar has committed to the University of Notre Dame for the 2014-15 school year where he will continue his football career.

“Nic has been a huge part of our program,” Marist football Coach Pat Dunne said. “His leadership on and off the field and the high level of excellence he sets for himself in every aspect of his life impact his teammates in a significant way. His commitment to his family first, and then school and our program has been a tremendous attribute for our team. I couldn’t be happier for him.” Dunne will join Weishar in San Antonio, as he was officially invited to the Bowl and preceding U.S. Army Coaches Academy, an elite three-day learning experience, including Bowl Week activities. 

Bowl officials also presented Marist with a commemorative plaque, while representatives from American Family Insurance presented Weishar’s parents, Don and Jean, with a plaque in recognition of their part in Nic’s many accomplishments.
