Oak Forest Debuts Online Water Billing System

The system is an effort to encourage residents to go paperless.

Oak Forest residents can now enroll in a new online water billing service provided by Payment Service Network (PSN), a pioneer in the online payment industry specializing in billing, payment and communication services to utility companies and municipalities. Residents with existing online water bill accounts need to enroll in the new service to continue paying electronically.

“PSN offers a lot more functionality than our previous online billing system,” said Finance Director Colleen Julian. “It’s also very secure with the highest level of certification in the industry.”

Once registered with PSN, it will take 24 hours for a resident’s bill to appear; however, he or she can pay the bill right away. Also, after a resident register’s online, he or she can use his or her mobile device to view and pay the water bill and set up recurring payments through Auto-Pay (optional) by downloading “PSN Payments” from the App Store® or Google PlayTM.

By paying electronically, residents can avoid late fees since online payments post the same day. Also, residents can print receipts, view payment history, edit preferred payment methods, and change the date of or cancel Auto-Pay. In addition, they can choose to pay by credit or debit card or make electronic payments from their checking or savings accounts.

“Ideally, we would like all of our residents to take advantage of the online payment system,” Julian said. “In particular, we are hoping that everyone who signs up chooses to go paperless—saving the city the cost of printing and mailing bills while at the same time being kinder to the environment.”

To encourage residents to “go green,” the city will select—at random—six paperless users, who will receive a $50 credit on their next billing statements. Two winners will be drawn each month over the next three months.
