Watch the Clinton-Trump Presidential Debate at Saint Xavier University

SXU hosts debate watching parties where students and residents can express views and register to vote.

CHICAGO, IL -- Saint Xavier University will kick off the first of its presidential debate watching parties when Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump take the stage for their first scheduled debate Monday, Sept. 26. Tensions are already mounting for what may be one of the highest rated and most watched presidential debates of all time.

Residents are invited to join SXU students in the Warde Academic Center on the school’s Chicago campus at 3700 West 103rd St. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.. Before the debate begins, local elected officials will be taking questions on how national issues affect us on the local level beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The first debate will feature only Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump -- third party candidate did not quality. Moderator and NBC anchor, Lester Holt, will divide the debate into six 15-minute time segments. Clinton and Trump will stand at lecterns for the entire 90 minutes, and there will be no commercial breaks, according to Town Hall.

The debate is being held at Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY. The big show is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Central Time.

Residents and students can also register to vote in the historic 2016 Presidential Election.

If you do plan to register, here are the voter registration requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by Election Day;
  • Must have been a resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.

Additionally, please bring two forms of identification with at least one showing your current residence. A Social Security Card is also valid.
Light refreshments will be served at all of SXU’s scheduled debate watching parties. Residents interested in watching the debates on the SXU campus need to RSVP by emailing newsroom@sxu.edu.

SXU’s debate watching parties provide an excellent opportunity to get informed on the issues and exercise your right to vote. Other debate watching parties are set for:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 4, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (VP Presidential Debate) Fourth Floor Board Room
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. (Presidential Debate) Fourth Floor Board Room
