Security Detail For Harvey Mayor Shoots At Robber In Chicago: Police

No one was injured, police said.

CHICAGO, IL β€” A private security officer for the mayor of Harvey intervened during an armed robbery Wednesday, firing a gun at the offender, according to police.

The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Halsted Street, according to police, who said the security detail for Mayor Christopher Clark discharged a firearm at a robber who was holding an 86-year-old man at gunpoint. No one was injured, police said.

Corean Davis, chief of staff for Clark, offered a somewhat different account of what happened in a statement provided to the Chicago Sun-Times. She said the security officer saw a person in a ski mask exit a Jeep brandishing a gun, and when the officer left his vehicle, the armed offender turned while pointing the weapon, leading the officer to shoot β€” striking the Jeep β€” and the offender to flee, the Sun-Times reported.
