Shooting In Oak Forest Leaves 1 Wounded

A person was shot three times early Saturday morning outside the apartment complex at 157th and Lamon in Oak Forest.

OAK FOREST, IL -- A person was shot and wounded just after midnight Saturday morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex just north of the Oak Forest Metra station. Oak Forest police continue to search for the suspect, who according to a source left the area in a black Dodge Charger, as of 8 a.m.

Initial reports indicate the person was shot three times around 12:10 a.m. outside the apartment complex at 157th and Lamon Avenue, which is just steps from the parking lot for the Metra station at 159th Street.

Shell casings were found in the area but the suspect was still on the loose after several police cars arrived, according to Northern Illinois Fireground Photos photographer Todd Sherman.

The shots awoke several residents of the apartment building just west of Cicero on 157th Street.

"All you could hear is pow, pow," said Brittney Hollis, who has lived in the building for three years. "It sounded like an M-80 went off. It woke me up and a few minutes later you hear a bunch of squad cars."

Hollis said she's never heard gunshots before, describing Oak Forest as an overall "safe" community.

"It's kind of scary," she said. "I didn't know what was happening."

The victim was transported to trauma at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The person's age and gender has not been released.

Oak Forest police did not immediately respond to questions regarding the shooting.
